Nature and most indigenous cultures have inspired me to use beads.
Within nature there are so many intricate patterns.
Indigenous cultures have respect for the laws of nature and love art as a part of everyday life.
Their homes clothing and adornments reflect their admiration for Mother Earth.
Many native cultures use beads as a form of art and adornment.
Beads are a way for me to replicate the beautiful patterns of the natural world.
Patterns and colors make up our visual surroundings.
My goal is to honor the pallet of color all around us daily, and to continue to create on the patterns of our surrounding visions.
Jewelry’s origins lie in magic. In the earliest times jewelry was probably worn to avert negativity. Jewelry was also often placed in tombs with other goods to guard the dead. Where materialism has ruled over naturalism, jewelry has survived as ornamentation. Jewelry still has a few ceremonial roles, such as engagement and wedding bands. Bracelets, necklaces, rings (sometimes earrings) are all circles, the symbol of eternity, unity, reincarnation and the universe. These can be objects of protection that ward off negativity through its continuity. Necklaces, worn close to the heart can be used to strengthen love and work on emotions.
Since I was a child I have been attracted to all of Mother Natures tiny gifts.
Shells, stones or seeds, are just some of her treasures, I enjoy using in my beadwork.
All gemstones have healing qualities to them that can be beneficial to our life.
People of Egypt, China or the Americas have used gemstones as a talisman for centuries.
I appreciate this knowledge from them and honor and praise all stones from Mother Earth. They are our oldest ancestors.
Shells and pearls are also a special form of beads. Life began in our oceans and these offerings remind me of our connection.
Beads have spirit to me. They echo stories from ancient people and distant times.
It is my goal to “Bead the change I wish to see in the world.”……(Thanks, Gandhi)
Beads are not just for adorning ourselves with. Beads are a Talisman for many cultures throughout time.
A Talisman can provide protection for the one who wears it. I work with gemstones in my bead work because I feel a connection to the spirit beings of each stone.
Rocks and stones are our oldest ancestors. I have spent much time hiking the mesa canyon mountains of the Southwest U.S. These ancient canyons will remind you of your place in time.
I have much respect for all that the rock canyon walls have witnessed over time here on Earth. With every stone that is mined from our Mother Earth, there is a energetic force to it, as with everything.
Honor the gemstones you may have in your jewelry box. They have been taken from their original home.
